How To Grow Mushrooms Before You Become a Wholesale Brown Mushroom Supplier?

If you have ever thought of starting a wholesale business, then begin with growing mushrooms at home. One might wonder that it is a long and hectic process to start a business, but this process ensures profit. You have to take care of your growing mushrooms and harvest them for six months at a stretch. Brown mushrooms have very minimal growing needs and can be planted using mycelium or podzol. This business can bring you lots of profit as a wholesale mushroom supplier, and you are free to change the mushrooms from brown to some other kind. Some of the factors you need to know before you become a wholesale supplier of brown mushrooms are as follows.

Get Your Spawn and Substrate

The first thing you must have is a spawn, the living fungal culture. You can either produce your spawns by utilising sterile culture or buy ready-to-inoculate spawns from other suppliers. Initially, making spawns at your home might be cheaper, but in the long run, it will cost you a fortune. So it is better to buy the ready-to-inoculate spawns from the suppliers.

Prepare the Substrate

You have to buy the preferred substrate, such as straw or wood chips. Generally, the straw method is used for brown mushrooms. Firstly chop the straw into small pieces and then heat them in boiling water. After boiling the straw, drain out the water and spread the straw on a clean surface. Give it time to cool down.

Incubation and Fruiting

Remember to keep the growing temperature at 78°F and prevent any natural light from getting into the room. Cover the trays with plastic bags so that no light can enter. It is best to use a red darkroom light to check on the mushrooms. If you notice little pre-heads of the brown mushrooms, then it is time for fruiting. Fruiting needs to be done at 65°F and requires a lot of sunlight. Finally, remove the plastic bags for the mushrooms to grow correctly.

Harvest

When the mushrooms are ready, you can harvest them by twisting the stem of the growing blocks. Subsequently, you are prepared to start with your wholesale business and continue growing brown mushrooms in this way. Before becoming a wholesale mushroom supplier, you need to be quite accustomed to the process of growing mushrooms.

These are some of the significant steps you should know before you begin growing mushrooms for your wholesale business. Besides growing mushrooms at your home, various services can deliver fresh and quality mushrooms to your doorstep.
